Boulder Walls

Natural stone that holds the line between land and water.

A well-built boulder wall is the single best investment you can make in a Minnesota lakeshore. It stops erosion where wave action and ice meet your lawn, and it does it with natural fieldstone that looks like it has always belonged there.

At KC Boulder Walls & Shoreline Restoration, we hand-place every boulder — sorting for size, face, and color so the finished wall reads as one continuous, natural formation rather than a stacked pile of rock. On the lakes around East Bethel and Coon Lake, we set a stable base below the water line, backfill with washed rock and filter fabric, and grade the top course to meet your lawn cleanly.

Because we live and work on these lakes, we understand what our winters do to a shoreline. Frost, ice heave, and spring melt punish anything built without a proper base. Our walls are engineered from the bottom up to move with the freeze-thaw cycle and stay put for decades — protecting Martin Lake, Forest Lake, Lake George, Linwood Lake, and Coon Lake properties season after season.

Whether you want a low, gentle course that softens the edge of a manicured lawn or a taller structural wall that reclaims land lost to erosion, we build to your water line and the way you actually use your shoreline.

Why it matters

  • Erosion control that lasts

Filter fabric, washed-rock backfill, and a keyed base course stop soil loss for the long haul.

  • Hand-selected stone

Boulders sorted by face and color so the wall looks quarried from your own shoreline.

  • Built for MN winters

Bases set below the frost and water line to ride out ice heave and spring melt.

How It Works

Our approach, step by step

01

Shoreline assessment

We walk your waterfront, read the grade and water line, and identify where erosion is starting.

02

Base & fabric

We excavate and key in a stable base, then lay filter fabric to keep soil from washing through.

03

Hand-placed stone

Each boulder is set by hand and locked to its neighbors for a tight, natural face.

04

Grade & restore

We backfill, finish the top course to your lawn, and leave the site clean and seeded.
